levels smhevels
First off let me start out by saying that i think Factions is an awesome game. However...there are a few particular kinks that need to be worked out. Im not concerned at all, because no game is perfect at launch, but they still need to be fixed, or at least considered, none the less.
Most of these problems, such as the changes to the 12 vs 12 pvp and others have been adressed in various fourms, but one obesrvation i havent seen from anyone else is that there doesnt seemd to be any point in levels anymore. Maybe since im the first to say this im just crazy, but it really seems to me they've sapped the point of levels away.
Everyone is level 20. You NEED to be level 20 to do any of the mainland's missions. What the heck is up with that?
i realize the position a.net is in, seeing as how they have the lvl 20s comming over from the last game and need to make the story lvl a challenge to them too, but if everyone is the same level whats the point in having levels? I used to be proud that i could say "hey all you level 15s, im 16!" or walk into a town and say "Lvl 20 R LFG". Now if someone ISNT level 20, they are considered noobish.
Something needs to be done about this in my opinion. Id say raise the level cap a little, but thatd ruin the balance of guild wars. So, i really cant offer a solution. I can only state the problem.
Suggest/ criticisms welcome

I'd say do away with levels entirely, but I guess it's a bit late for that.

levels balance everyone, it's what makes GW, GW. this eliminates the grind. GW is based on player skill, not how much health your character has or how many levels you have earned, besides they already stated that theyre happy with the level cap and frankly, so am I

I dont mind the way they made factions lvling up so fast. The only problem about it is that theres gonna be LOTS of newb lvl 20's running around so groups wont be as good as factions.

I'd love to have a higher skill cap. Even if it's like, 25 or 30; just to get some more attribute points.

Factions has quick leveling primarily because the missions are competative. The fact that players from the last chapter will breeze through low level content is just a minor upset, the serious threat is competative missions in which higher level characters will have an advantage. Reaching max level early helps us get into the real Bread and Butter of the game, which is strategy, not leveling up one and bragging that you got one more level then someone else. Bragging rights go to those who are accomplished players, not those who played for 1 more hour (the time it takes to gain a level).
Level Bragging can stay in MMOs, along with grind and player economy, they all suck. In reality, no amount of training makes you superhuman, and GW has the character developement down solid, you can improve some, but your not Cloud Strife.

Yes, the leveling is quick, but you are missing something I think.
While we experienced Prophecies veterans may not notice it, the new Factions players are cursing at the difficulty of quests such as QLS and TCS. Taking down those hordes of Crimson Skull with a 4-man/6-man team is easy if you know what you're doing, understand aggro and pulling, know your skills, etc. But for those people that just started playing, it gets rough. Hell, even I had issues with those two; then again, maybe I should have taken real players instead of henchies...
Though we can level up new Canthan-based characters much quicker than the old days of Tyria, we also will be learning how to play the game at an accelerated pace. It's another balancing act in a sense.
Tyria = Slower leveling, more time to observe, learn, understand.
Cantha= Quicker leveling, less time to observe, learn, understand.

In cantha you can get to lvl 10+ in about an hour of questing, and most of these quests you dont have to fight. For example, 1,000 exp to form a party with a henchie. 3,000 exp for choosing a second profession. countless quests where you just gotta talk to people.

And then you get to the mainland, where the real game starts.
I like it this way. Not having to worry about leveling up, making sure I'm high enough to tackle this mission--everyone's level 20, everyone's high enough, everyone's on the same playing field. I love it.
